Ecuador is an amazing country with waves year around. As with most countries in South America, there are many good quality waves just waiting to be surfed. Ecuador receives plenty of swells during its two main surf seasons and has the added bonus of warmer water. Ecuador really lights up in a big swell and if you know the waves you can find up to four meter waves. Being exposed to both north and south swells ensures that it is a great country to go surfing since there are almost always waves. The summer in Ecuador is from January to the end of May. This time of the year the coast is warm all day and all night long and there is no need to bring you wet suit. There is plenty of surf in most of Ecuador and most days are wind free and glassy. A lot of north swells hit Ecuador and some of the best waves, the ones that are facing north, breaks really good. The winter is from June to December and in these months the water sometimes gets a bit colder and the days are less sunny. The north swells stop coming, which leaves the door open for all the big south swells to hit the Ecuadorian coast. Even though it is chillier the waves are still fun and long. During these months you might want to use a wet suit (1,5 mm) |
